Welcome to The Little Claymores U10

My name is Britt McTammany and I am head coach of The Little Claymores youth soccer team with the Clay County Soccer Club.  On behalf of myself, coach Greg Carmichael and team mom and my wife Laura McTammany, we would like to welcome you to our U10 team.  For those of you that are returning, welcome back.  For our new players and families we hope you have a great season playing with us.

Our team philosophy is to have fun learning the best game on the planet... soccer.  Between Greg and myself, we have been either playing or coaching soccer for over 50 years combined and have been coaching the Little Claymores since U5... with this being our 9th season.  For most of you this will be your first season playing U10 and will pose lots of exciting challenges for our team.  Coach Greg and myself are really excited to further develop your individual skills and begin to teach the more advanced tactical aspect of the game.

PRACTICES:
Practices will be Tuesdays at 6:30 and Sundays at 4:00 both at the Clay County Soccer Club in Eagle Harbor.  Please bring shin guards, soccer specific boots (cleats), plenty of liquid refreshment (water is usually best), a size 4 ball with ample air and a great attitude to have some fun.  Practice session are between and hour and hour and a half depending on how much fun the kids are having and we ask that you be there ready to play at the designated start time.

We realize that weekdays pose challenges do to homework requirements so please do not hesitate to leave early to fulfill these responsibilities.  We also ask that you are there to pick up your kids promptly at the end of practice.

GAMES:
The schedule is not yet out but as soon as it is delivered to me I will forward it to all of you.  I would like for everyone to be at the field dressed, and ready to warm up 30 minutes prior to the game time.  We also do snacks after every game and my wife Laura will be coordinating with each of you to make that happen.

END OF SEASON PARTY:
At the end of every season we have a party at the fields after that last game with snacks, cupcakes and medals/trohies for all the kids.  About mid way through the season we will have a better handle on pricing for the medals and can coordinate that with you.  We typically try to stay in the $8-$12 range per kid so as to not break the bank.

CONDUCT:
For the best interest of the children we and the club asks that you be on your very best behavior during games.  It’s hard enough for these young boys and girls to concentrate but when people are screaming and yelling from the sidelines it can be very difficult.  Cheering and positive encouragement is always welcomed but please refrain from giving specific instruction to the kids on the field during the game.

In addition, the club has made it very clear that profanity and abusive behavior on or off the field will not be tolerated.

Please reply to this email so that I know you have received it.  For many of you I do not have telephone contact information too so please send that just in case.  The primary form of communication will be via our website at http://thelittleclaymores.blogspot.com/ or email.  I make my best effort to keep the information up to date on the blog especially the weather information for practices and games.  Unless there’s lightning, a hurricane or flooded fields we will practice and have games.

Thanks again for your support and we look forward to seeing everyone at our first official training session this Sunday afternoon.  On Sundays, since the club is typically closed, we practice on the fields nearest the school located just before the main entrances to the club.

Sincerely,

Britt McTammany
THE LITTLE CLAYMORES

Pictures at 10:45 this Saturday before the game

The club's picture day is this Saturday, March 20th.  Our team is scheduled at 10:45.  As in seasons past I will be glad to take team and individual photos of the kids and make them available at cost via the internet.  You can choose to do either or both options if you desire.  I will not be taking my pictures until later in the season.

Full field scrimmage next Tuesday, March 23rd @ 5:30p

We have lined up a scrimmage game with Sara Perkins, coach of a very experienced U9 advanced team at the club.  This team is very good and competes regularly with U10 recreational and advanced teams.  We scrimmaged her team last year with ties both times.  They were excellent games to experience... as players, coaches and parents.

Please come ready to play with both your jerseys.  As the plan sits now we will be in white but that can always change.  Also, please let Greg, Laura or I know if there's a problem with scheduling.

New Sunday Practice Time

Practices in Sunday will now be at 3:30 until 5:00.  We will have them on the fields we play on if goals are available.  if the fields happen to be closed then we will practice at our alternate location near the parking lot at the adjacent school.

Thank you for your support and please let us know if there's a problem with the new time.

After game snack packages available at the CCSC concession stand.

Good evening coaches!  I am just following up about the team snacks...please pass this info along to your parents in case anyone has questions.

The concession stand is offering a team snack option this season.  If your team has a "snack person" for the day, then that person could opt to purchase tickets for their team at the concession stand, hand out the tickets, then the kids can redeem the tickets after their game.  The prices are:  U5/U6- $8.00; U8/U10- $10.00; and U12 and up- $12.00.  THe kids can choose their snack and drink.  The choices are:  (snack) granola bars, chips, chocolate chip cookies, ring pops, airheads, and pretzels;  (drink) juice box, canned soda, or 12 oz. fountain soda.  The kids REALLY enjoyed picking their snacks this past Saturday, and there was a lot of positive feedback from the parents as well--especially those who did not have to carry bags of snacks and coolers to the field!

The fees are set per age--not per number of players.

I have requested that you, or your team mom, contact me and let me know if your team will be participating this season.  You DO NOT have to participate EVERY week, I just need a general idea of how many teams are participating so that I may shop accordingly.  Last week I had 7 teams contact me, and 12 teams actually purchased tickets.  That is fantastic--but I don't want to run out of drinks and food for the kids.  Please let me know if you think this is something your team may participate in--even if it is only 50% of the time.

Please contact me at any time for questions or suggestions.  Thank you so much for all that you are doing for the kids and the club!!

Practice Today at 5:00! Friday March 5th!

We are going to try and have a practice today just to get some more touches on the ball.  Not sure where we will find some grass at the club but please call me if you can't find us.  We will meet at 5:00 and go as long as the kids want to play.

Thursday, March 4, 2010

Likelyhood of another practice before our first game is unlikely.

Unfortunately due to the fact that the club has only given teams 1 week to practice prior to the start of the season, the rainy weather and my crazy work schedule we will most likely not be able to get a practice in with the entire team before or game on Saturday.

There is a sliver of a chance I could do it this afternoon or maybe tomorrow afternoon but I am still trying to work out the schedule.  If I can work it out, Laura or I will email everyone with instructions.  It would be at Eagle Harbor at 5:30 and would last as long as we have light.

Please stay posted and thank you for your support.

2010 Spring Season

Welcome everyone to the Spring 2010 Season.  This will be our last season at U8 and for many of us our last season in recreational play.  Many of you know Greg and myself by now but for those that don't... welcome to the 8th season of the Little Claymores. Greg and I have been training with many of these kids for a long time and we have a team centric approach to developing these young soccer players.

I am looking forward to some serious team play and ball movement development as we now start to move into a more cooperative, multi-player approach to the game of soccer.  Each of you should have mastered the basics of individual ball control and distribution so that we can further advance our team based strategies.

Practices will be Tuesdays from 5:15-6:30 and Sundays at 2:00-3:15 and we kindly ask that you make your best efforts to be at both.  As always, please make sure your child has shin guards, something to drink and a size 4 ball (with air).  Parent attendance is welcomed but not mandatory but please be there promptly to pick-up your child after practice.

As we move forward our Team Manager, Laura McTammany, will be developing game snack schedules, end-of-year party plans, etc... so please stay posted to this blog for all the necessary information you will need regarding the team and your child.

Once again, this blog has been designed for you so that you can stay informed regarding the Little Claymores.  We may send email reminders on occasion but this is the bible and it is your responsibility to check it and stay in the loop regarding what is going on.  Please book mark it or add it as a tab for the next 3 months.

Schedules are not out yet but as soon as they are they will be available here and as a PDF for you to print and post on your fridge.

Thank you all for your involvement and I look forward to another great season.  Please feel free to use the links to the right to contact myself, Greg or Laura with and questions, ideas or concerns you may have.

Sincerely,

Britt McTammany, Head Coach
Greg Carmichael, Coach
Laura McTammany, Team Manager

CCSC GENERAL RULES & REGULATIONS

SHIN GUARDS
Shin guards are mandatory at both practices and games. If your child does not have them they will not be allowed to play. Not only is this an insurance related issue but none of us want our children injured during the course of play. Please get shin guards that fit properly and are comfortable.

UNIFORMS
The uniforms are the same as last year. If you are new to the club and paid for your uniforms thru the Blue Sombrero registration, your uniforms will be at the CCSC Club House which will be open from 5-7 starting on Monday, August 25th.

Black & white jerseys are HOME, Red and White jerseys are AWAY. I will be posting a schedule that will be very clear as to which jerseys we will need for each game but please bring both just in case of a game day change.

MANDARORY VOLUNTEERISM
The CCSC is requiring volunteer assistance in several areas to help offset new costs associated with operating the league and maintaining the field and facilities.

Concession stand
The first is duty at the concession stand. Each team is required to provide 4-6 volunteers once through out the season to man the stand. When I get more information on this I will post it here on the blog.

Field set-up and take-down
Second will be assistance with setting up and taking down the fields. Each team will be required to set-up a field on Friday evening according to a schedule yet to be posted. The duties included in setting up the field as lining the field, moving, staking and setting up the goals as well as placing the corner flags.

If our team is the last to play on game day we will be responsible for un-staking and moving the goals and putting the flags into the equipment shed.

Field Clean-up
If you see garbage on the ground, please help keep the facilities clean by picking it up and throwing it away.

Field Marshall
Each home team will be required to designate a Field Marshall responsible primarily for acting as an emergency contact between the field and the club house. You will wear an orange vest and carry a radio. In the case of an emergency you will be the point of contact that will get 911 on the scene and help communicate the situation to club officials.

The Field Marshall is also responsible for communicating with the club house regarding unruly behavior on the part of parents and spectators and making sure the field is clean after the game. When I receive more information and assignments from the club I will post them here.
